Located in the heart of the Gothic Quarter and with just 28 rooms, the Mercer Hotel Barcelona is a unique establishment in a restored heritage building of tremendous historical value to the city. Parts of the building dates back to the 1st century AD, including a portion of the Roman wall of ancient Barcino, whilst other parts date back to the middle ages. The architectural restoration project was headed up by Rafael Moneo who achieved the perfect balance between the original recovered features and new construction, most strikingly evident in the spectacular curtain wall that dominates the space known as the Orange Tree Patio.

The hotel executive cher, Jean Luc Figueras was the precursor of modern Barcelona cuisine and his French culinary background and Italian influence (he was a pioneer in introducing carpaccio and tiramisu to Barcelona, quite a novelty at that time) enriched his Catalan culinary roots, later evolving towards a totally personal, spontaneous and creative style of cooking. Some of the dishes that will feature on the menu include langoustine cannelloni with tomato confit and black olives; rice with Palamós prawns; seasonal ceps with scallops and salted butter foam; the classic line-caught sea bass with salt cod tripe and black sausage, and the mouth-watering hot chocolate mousse with blackberries and vanilla ice-cream. The hotel’s bistrot, Le Bouchon, reinterprets the restaurants cuisine in the form of a tavern with a carefully-chosen range of cold and hot tapas.
