Lisbon is a fabulous city to visit for a shortbreak, as I recently discovered for myself, and being further south than most European cities, the mild weather makes it an excellent choice for an out of season escape. I’d never been before and while I was eager to explore the city, my main reason for being there was to learn about the sustainability and corporate responsibility policies of a very special hotel, the Inspira Santa Marta.
I completely fell in love with this hotel. The location by the waterfront is idyllic, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming plus the restaurant was superb.
The Bloempot, described on their website as a Flemish canteen, is the current ‘in place’ in Lille. It was opened last August, by the popular, young finalist of the French TV series ‘Top Chef’, Florent Ladeyn, with his great friend, Kevin Rolland.
Right from the moment I wrapped myself up in the soft, white, fluffy robe I felt pampered. I was at the Solent Hotel in Hampshire on the south coast of England, for a morning of relaxation. Opening out on to a small meadow and woodland, the spa is a wonderful place to unwind, particularly on a sunny day.
We all love a bit of luxury, but there is so much more to making a hotel really memorable. I recently asked 5 well-respected travel bloggers what were their favourite luxury, boutique or eco chic hotels. They replied with a very interesting mix, from the ultimate in luxury to something a little more unusual.
La Rocchetta, a small boutique hotel in the Sierra de los Padres valley, near the city of Mar del Plata in Argentina, was created with the sole purpose of giving guests a unique and memorable experience every time they visited.
I had heard good things about this hotel and wanted to know more. With the means of modern technology I was able to have a chat with owner, Agustin Ciarfaglia. I found it thoroughly enthralling hearing how one family’s dream became a reality.
With good reason most visitors to the beautiful Mediterranean island of Sardinia flock to the coast, as the beaches are among the most beautiful in the world, but, if they don’t ever venture inland, they are really missing out. The scenery inland is breathtaking and in the foothills of the majestic mountains you’ll find one of the mist charming hotels I’ve ever stayed at. It is only rated as a four star hotel but if it is good enough for the likes of Madonna and Richard Gere, than it is good enough for me!
In one of the most affluent areas of London, the Millennium Gloucester is a stylish hotel in a great location for both business or leisure travellers visiting the city. When I found the entrance to the hotel I was surprised to see what resembled an underground car park but as I walked towards the doors I was transported to a world of comfort and luxury. What struck me most about my stay was how exceptionally charming and polite all the staff were, from the moment I arrived at reception to the housekeeping staff I passed in the corridor, making my stay a much more intimate experience than you would expect from a hotel with over 600 rooms.
A charming pedestrian cobbled street, rue Montorgueil, is lined with wonderful restaurants, cafés, cheese shops, bakeries, wine shops as well as Paris’ oldest (and one of its finest) pâtisseries. It’s a real joy to explore. Let us take you through some of the street’s highlights.
Sitting on a tiled bench in nothing but a paper g-string is not how I would normally picture the start of a day’s pampering but that is exactly how my morning started; I’m here to enjoy the delights of this beautiful spa, including a traditional Moroccan hamam, in the most opulent and stylish hotel in The Gambia. I’m a firm believer that if you want to give your best to other people whether family, friends, work or even volunteering, you have to make time to look after yourself and what better way than this!
