Leo’s Beach Hotel is a contemporary, stylish and intimate hotel in a stunning location overlooking a wide sandy beach in The Gambia, West Africa.
Leo’s Beach Hotel
With just five double bedrooms plus one suite and with no children allowed, Leo’s is a serene oasis in the colourful country of The Gambia. The Austrian owners left their careers in publishing to build their dream home with a small, family-run hotel attached, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and they invite you to experience it with them.
Each of the five double bedrooms is spacious and light with all the usual modern conveniences you would expect and balconies looking out across the pool to the gardens and ocean beyond. The suite has a large living area and separate bedroom but it should be noted that the balcony does not face the sea.
The restaurant at Leo’s Beach Hotel offers just a small choice of beautifully prepared dishes, made with fresh, local produce and is popular with the local expat community.
I really loved the calm atmosphere here, the owner’s are charming and, with their staff, will work hard to make sure that you have the perfect holiday. The views here are lovely too. One of my favourite touches is the Jacuzzi corner in the pool. There’s a tabletop in the middle with two buttons. One turns on the Jacuzzi and the other summons a waiter – my kind of pool!
There’s a spacious garden with sunbeds under shade-giving palm trees and steps lead down to a short sandy path that will lead you through more palm trees to the beach, a vast expanse of sand with barely a soul in sight, perfect for a romantic walk at sunset.
Leos Beach Hotel & Sustainability
Leo’s is the first hotel in The Gambia to use a photovoltaic system, which feeds electricity back into the national grid. Solar power is used to heat the hot water. Local craftsmen built the lovely, quality furniture throughout the hotel.
Things to do in and around Leo’s Beach Resort
Kololi, with its restaurants, nightlife and shops is just a ten-minute taxi ride away, while the nearby fishing village of Tanji is well worth visiting to watch the colourful pirogues returning with their catch. This together with birdwatching, fishing, golf, forest hikes tracking baboons or a visit to a woodcarvers market are just some of the activities that can be easily to arranged.
