In the historic centre of Trancoso, a small fishing village on the southern Bahian coast in Brazil lies the charming UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa. This 5 star boutique hotel comprises of 11 casas, including this award-winning treehouse.

Combining rustic charm with contemporary comfort, the treehouse was designed by Wilbert Das, former long-time creative director for the Italian fashion line Diesel, working with local artisans using traditional building methods, reclaimed materials and furnished with Brazilian antiques and art.

This delightful one-bedroom treehouse has an ensuite bathroom with a double shower and a separate living area. beneath the treehouse, a large covered verandah makes an idyllic alfresco living room with a hammock and antique wooden swings. There’s also a private patio area with a spa tub on the outdoor decking.

Furniture, decor, lighting and fixtures are one-of-a-kind creations at UXUA, handmade at the hotel by native artisans ranging from fishermen to Pataxó Indians. Antiques and art are sourced locally while international creatives living at UXUA have also contributed via their Artist In Casa residency.

With two restaurants serving traditional cuisine, a spa and gym, a unique swimming pool of healing aventurine crystals (which are said to amplify energy as well as having healing properties) and a spectacular beach lounge, UXUA is the perfect beachside escape with a twist.
