Nestled among the beautiful landscaped, flower-filled grounds of A Merula is this lovely collection of apartments. Each one has been decorated with loving care and has all the facilities that you would need for a self-catering holiday. All the apartments have a private balcony or terrace overlooking the gardens, use of the shared pool, Wi-Fi plus air-conditioning for the summer and heating for the winter months.

Walking through the grounds it feels as if you are deep in the Corsican countryside yet the heart of Calvi with its marina, filled with luxury yachts, and its beautiful sandy bay, is just a short stroll away. The pool is lovely and we often had it to ourselves or just one or two other guests. There’s a wonderful little shop just a couple of minutes walk away by the beach that sells everything you might need for a picnic including delicious pastries. I love Calvi and I’ve visited it many times but this is, without doubt, my favourite place to stay.

Calvi

Calvi is a charming town with an ancient citadel overlooking a marina and a sweeping bay of golden sand that gently slopes into the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean. There is a host of wonderful restaurants to discover all within easy walking distance of A Merula. The railway station is also nearby and from here you can take the coastal train to other beaches, villages and the town of L’Ile Rousse which is well worth a visit. Renting a car and exploring the mountain villages such as Pigna and Sant’Antonino gives you the chance to visit some wonderful places that you would otherwise miss out on. Be warned though, there are virtual no straight roads on Corisca and winding your way up and down the mountains on often single track roads can be quite a hair-raising experience for those not used to it.
