The Gambia in west Africa, is best known as a winter sun destination but the summer, especially up until the end of June is a great time to visit, with temperatures in the 30s, beautiful quiet beaches and an average of 9 hours sunshine.
Later on in the ‘green’ season, as its known, the rain usually comes in short sharp bursts, often at night and the temperatures remain high. Humidity levels also rise but by the coast you’ll feel the benefit of a cooling breeze. While some hotels and restaurants close, many stay open and the lovely beaches are even quieter (not that they’re ever that busy compared to some other resorts). There are some real bargains to be had in The Gambia and the luxury hotels, in particular, offer great value throughout the summer months, when compared to other destinations.
